Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner is an interesting depiction of life in the future.  In the movie Scott subjects that we should be aware of science because if it is not watched or controlled it would have dangerous possibilities. Although in the in Scott offers a chance for hope through the peaceful and consideration of humanity co-existing with science.

In the movie, Scott made relicants represent a disturbing view of the future.  The replicants(cyborg3) were viewed as slaves that were useless on earth.  Therefore, they were sent to another world to work.  The replicants killed with out thinking about what they did. They didn’t see the wrong in it because they had no sense of a conscience.   Scott points this out in the beginning of the movie when a suspect is being tested with a machine, which could read feeling of guilt or remorse. This machine could help find out if the suspect is a replicant or human by measuring the amount of remorse felt in a given action. The police officer used the machine on a suspected replicant.  The officer asked the suspect a couple of remorseful questions to provoke a response. The suspect became edgy and killed the officer with no hint of a hesitation.image

Tyrell(god6) is a Scientist in the movie. Besides not showing the human remorse of guilt, Tyrell tried created the replicants and tried so hard to make them as human as possible. His saying was “we try to make replicants more human than human.” Tyrell created a superior replicant model called Nexus 6. This is newest model of replicants. Tyrell implanted a memory chip in the Nexus 6, so that it would think that it was real. Tyrell also made a Nexus 6 model called Roy.  Roy was a phenomenal creation.  He had superior thinking for a replicant, which made him also very dangerous. In the movie Roy confronts Tyrell with a vengeance and kills him with out showing any reverence for his creator.image

Although Scott depicts a conflict between science and those who misuse it, Scott offers a peaceful solution.  In the movie, Roy and Deckerd (a blade runner) were sitting on the roof of an apartment complex. Ironically Roy saved Deckerd’s life after he tried to kill him earlier in the film. As they were sitting on the roof Roy was pointing out that he learned so much in his life, but all of his memories would be lost like “tears in the rain.” At that point, the audience can see that Roy is really a human(emotion6) in a replicants body.image

A human is hard to classify in this movie. Webster’s Dictionary defines the noun form of "Human" as “having human form or attributes” and the adjective form as “susceptible to or representative of the sympathies and frailties of human nature.” I feel that Roy fits these quantities.

Scott’s movie presents the state realization that science can be used against humanity if it is not carefully watch. The religious aspect of trying to play God is very serious. The scientists try to think that they can control nature, but really can’t. The replicants are like machines. If you are in a car and the wiring is not right the car could harm you or even kill you. The same could happen with a replicant. If its wiring is bad it could be a danger for the human race. Although, he also gives us hope for peace and offers that humanity and science can co-exist.
