Compared to our ancestors the people of the world today have a great advantage over them due to the technology we posses. Computers are helpful tools when used properly. Yet computers can only do what they are programmed for. When you are in a program it will allow you to only do what it can. The best example I can think of is a restaurant example. A fast food place such as Hardee’s or McDonalds fits very well for efficiency in serving many people but its quality is not high compared to other restaurants. Nicer, usually non-food chain restaurants that take a longer time to prepare offers more quality and a larger menu. Computers have become the fast food restaurants of the technology world. Instead of offering us a wide variety of options we are limited by what the programmers decide are his restraints. There are so many times I would like to do something in power point or word and I just can’t do it because the computer doesn’t understand what I am trying to do. If someone accepts these restraints and doesn’t search out a better option to make their idea real then it will be lost in time and then forgotten. People have some wonderful ideas that can’t be acted upon because the program does not recognize it. Another example is a production line of a car factory. If a certain type of car looks better with the color red than it does with brown a computer can’t pick that up. A person can look at the car and decide what color is best on it, but if the computer can only paint brown then no matter what may look better on it the car will be brown. So does a computer do what you tell it to or do you do what the computer allows?
