"Load-time" refers to the time it takes for a web page to load onto the user's machine. Graphics, animations, and sounds can take a while to load, especially on a dial-up line, often trying a user's patience. Some sites give a user something to look at while the graphics and multimedia effects load. Fan fiction can be a slow load, but because they are in text files, users can start reading while the rest of the story loads. Archive sites are also a slow load, but users are willing to wait because they came to the site in order to download larger files.
Commercial sites, such as NetForum and Real Hollywood Chat, are also usually a very slow load, either because of the number of users, or because of the scripts used in the interface, scripts which often cycle advertisements.
