This section of Bill Joy’s “Why the Future Doesn’t Need Us” was a very
short part of the entire work. Although short, this first train of
thoughts by Joy were intended to set up his thoughts on GNR and to tell
us, the audience of his argument, what GNR is. He went about this
by recounting for us when he first became aware of these new technologies
and the possible threat they provide to our world and us. He briefly
shares with us a run-in with an old friend that sparked his attention on
the subject. He shares with us some works that he has read and what
they mean to the overall affect this has had on his thoughts.
