It is funny to see how Bill Joy's life somewhat falls in place as a mere plan. I found myself stunned by his biography. He was practically a genius with the mind of Einstein, at such a young age. To see that he stuck with his passion he possessed at an early age shows his commitment and devotion to his work. I bet he never thought that all of his knowledge about science and technology would lead him to write an article about how his work could destroy our species in the future. All the time he worked on his “technological inventions” in the past, he probably never thought that they could become powerful to the point that they could destroy him, the creator. I'm just glad that he had the mind to elaborate on it and examine the issue to inform us so we could be warned of what could come to us in the future. It's from the great minds of those like Joy that our world is growing so advanced, and their responsibility to prevent the dangers they could create. |

Reading this article made me question if my life is really threatened.
Its not like these advancements are going to take over our world tomorrow,
or will they? So many things are being created day by day, and the advancements
that he noted to be threatening are already in affect. Genetic engineering,
Nanotechnology, Robotics, all three of these things are up and running.
For all I know I can be eating some type of genetically engineered food
made by some robotic contraption. Even though I'm still alive, my life
is in grave danger and believe me I am worried. By reading this article
I am now aware of what is going on and more cautious because I know it's
out there. As rapidly as these things are created and advanced to do better
things our society is becoming more vulnerable to reach its end. However
I feel somewhat comforted that we have a chance and the ability to change
things before they get out of hand, thanks to those like Joy.The question
is what procedure will we have to undergo, how long will it take for us
to enact the procedure, and will we do it before it is too late?

I find myself siding with Joy's grandmother to a certain extinct. I'm not an enemy of progress, but I think its unintelligent for one to waste their time trying to make simple things work when there are major issues that should be focused on. Our world is not perfect, and I don't think it was intended to be that way. Without cause and effect our lives would have no spunk. By learning from our mistakes, we are aware of the basic reality of things, in a way that we can understand them. The possibility of where are world is headed and how long our time will last will never be known. I truly believe that our world will come to an end, for it is fated that we will all die someday. Even though we might not like the way it will end, better yet know how it will end, it will. I can only hope that our intelligent species will let us enjoy it for the time we are allotted to live here, and not destroy it before it is to expire. After reading this article, my views on how people act in today's society change drastically. Before I would say that most individuals in today's society take too many risks. I felt that they should analyze and plan what they are preparing to do so that they wouldn't regret the grave mistake ahead of them. Unfortunately, this sounds crazy and boring but it is just what I felt. Now after reading this I can truly say that our species should go out and "party like it's nineteen ninety-nine!" We can't preserve each precious moment, we have to live for today and enjoy it while we can. |
