Vikki’s Thoughts and Views on Bill Joy’s Truth…
![]()
As I read “Why the Future Doesn’t Need Us” by Bill
Joy, I thought of how blessed and creative he was at such a young
age. Not everyday do we find a child that is enrolled in school and that
can read at the age of 3. I found myself in total awe as Joy gave highlights
of his childhood and college years. He accomplished so much at such a
young age. The one thing that stuck to me the most was his determination.
When he discovered that he liked computers and that they were his interests,
he didn’t give up. He was determined and excelled. He started to
design programs with the hope of improving and advancing the technology field.
He had no intent to offend or harm the ethical and moral issues of the human
race. When he was younger, Joy, like many scientists and inventors, probably
never considered the actual damage or affect of his “technological advancement.”
This article is enough to make one think about the
future and the overall affect of new technology. It is obvious that technology
will only continue to prosper and advance if we support it. If we just
take the time out to think about if we, the human race, are in danger.
The part that really held my attention was the point that Joy elaborated on
– genetic engineering. Considering the fact that we encounter this and
other technological advancements that affect us each day, we all should be aware
of the consequences. Thanks to Joy, I am mentally aware of what is going
on and am cautious about other aspects of advanced technology. Technology
is great, but when it comes to wiping out the whole human race, I would prefer
that we take immediate precautions or we not have it at all.
