Reed says:
see what Joy says
This particular aspect of his argument holds great PATHOS in that these were the emotions following the horrors of nuclear war, horrors, which according to Joy, couldn’t compare to those of GNR because of GNR’s self-replication abilities. We have all seen the horrific photographs of victims of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs. Imagining a worse fate for all of mankind is extremely emotional. This topic also incorporates LOGOS.
The emotions of the physicists after they had realized what horrors they had
committed against humanity are Joy’s most powerful
appeal to the emotions of the readers. The point is made that “hindsight
is twenty-twenty.” It is obvious that Joy believes
the developers of GNR will feel the same way if a similar atrocity occurs.
Not until it is too late do we has humans feel
regret.
