Reed says:
see what Joy says
This particular topic of Joy’s argument most defiantly contains PATHOS by playing on
the emotion of possible dependence on machines. Joy’s point is that as an unintended
result, robots would enslave the human race instead of vice-versa. In other words, the
continued development of these technologies might result in the oppression or
annihilation of the entire human species. This argument successfully appeals to my
imagination of how terrible a simple miscalculation could be with this technology.
The PATHOS this point in Joy’s argument contains is astounding. Joy not only appeals
to the fear we humans have at the thought of slavery, he plays with our imagination at
how wonderful a life would be without the need to work. The drastic difference between
the emotions created by thoughts of a Utopian and Dystopian society exemplify the power
of Joy’s PATHOS.
