Bill Joy says: see what Reed says
The technology for the atomic bomb was continually
developed after the immediate threat of a Japanese invasion had past.
The threats these weapons posed were overshadowed by the drive for development. Joy recounts the emotions of these
developers of the atomic bomb after its deployment. “They describe a series of waves of emotion: first, a sense of
fulfillment that the bomb worked, then horror at all the people that had been killed, and then a convincing feeling that on no
account should another bomb dropped.” (Joy, 250)
The emotions of the developers continued to worsen. Joy states, “Oppenheimer seemed to have reached another stage in
his thinking, saying, ‘physicists have known sin; and this is a knowledge
they cannot lose.’” (Joy, 250)
