Joy is the author of some very opinionated arguments against modern technology, despite his deep-rooted background in technology.  His position as Chief Scientist at Sun Microsystems along with his direct feeling, “I trust it is clear that I am not a Ludite,” would make him appear as a supporter of modern technology.  But does Joy’s fear of being overrun by the three evil technologies, genetics, nanotechnology, and robotics, (GNR) merit any real emergency?  Are these three sciences any more dangerous than the technology he helps advance daily?  Some may argue that Joy is a true hypocrite, by working on the brink of computer technology, then in his spare time professing that, “…some knowledge is too dangerous and is best foregone.”  The multiple personalities of Joy shall be examined and reviewed to determine if he is just a fearful worker in the system to destroy the human race, or simply an out of place Ludite.
