 Their purpose is clearly
destructive, the only thing these weapons accomplish is the mass destruction of
life.

the possibilities of both positive and negative effects, though the negative
effects could stem from positive intentions.
It would be like the anti-biotic syndrome: anti-biotics were prescribed
to help cure illness, due to unseen over use more deadlier and resistant strains
of bacteria have evolved. In regards to Nanotechnology, this idea is call the
“gray goo syndrome”, where nano replicators created to serve a purpose run
amuck and do something disastrous like destroying the bio-sphere. Another
scenario is robots starting a revolution for themselves or people eating
genetically engineered food that causes some unforeseen side effect.
