This work is a webbed analysis of an excerpt from Shoshana Zuboff's
book In the Age of the Smart Machine: The Future of Work and Power.
The excerpt is an introduction to the text in which Zuboff touches on her
theories on the future for a working environment that has integrated "intelligent"
technology into its everyday routine.
Zuboff' s introduction can be divided into two primary sections.
The first focuses on possible scenarios for the future of the workplace,
and the second differentiates between technology of "automation" and that
of "information" as well as the latter's inevitable effect on human labor.
Section One of this analysis, entitled "The Future of the Workplace," corresponds to the first section of the essay mentioned above.
Sections Two, entitled "The Future with Information Technology," addresses the second part of this piece.
The Selected Quotations portion of the analysis includes pertinent sentences directly taken from the Zuboff's introduction.
The Abstract of this piece by Albert
H. Teich as it appears in his book, Technology and the Future, can also
be found in this analysis.
