One interesting connection has not yet been made between hypertext theorists valorizing Vannevar Bush as the great granddaddy of hypertext and fans of X-Files-related arcana. Bush wrote his famous article in 1945, but in 1947, when an alien spacecraft supposedly crashed in Roswell, NM, Vannevar Bush was reputedly named head of the Above Top Secret group MJ-12, the highest level of government control and cover-up for alien contact, black budgets and the development of human uses for alien technology. At least we know that Bush did not get the idea for hypertext from the aliens. Or did he?
